Why my clothes especially underwear seems to go bad in laundry?
by admin on Apr.13, 2010, under Uncategorized
I have quite high quality brand name underwear such as CK, but they get teared down fast washing with my washer and dryer. Any tips? I wonder if the length of drying is making my clothes messed up?

Wash under garments by themselves. Make sure your loads arent to full. There needs to be plenty of movement room. Also, try to wash everything on delicate and use cold water.
As for drying…do not dry your undergarments. Let them lay flat to dry. Light shirts or tops shouldnt be dried all the way before taking them out of the dryer. Again, make sure you dont overfill the dryer.
This should help.

Okay I’m an old codger but my wife has trained me well. I know that her skimpies and flimsies can only be washed in luke to cold warm water and never, never put in the drier. I must hang them on a special hanger in the laundry room.
The temperature of hot water in the washing machine and the dryer are not sufficient to kill many germs but they can certainly kill the elastics and cause the delicate synthetic fabrics to degrade.

Your underwear SHOULD go into the dryer since the dryer will destroy any germs from your undies. The best thing for you to do is wash them using a gentle detergent like Woolite, ivory snow, zero or any liquid detergent thats free and clear and pre treat any stains before you put them into the machine. Reduce the amount of time they are agitating in the wash. Most machines regular cycle runs about 14 minutes, reduce it to 9-8 minutes and place them into the dryer on a low temp setting under 15 minutes or so. If there still damp just hang them until their completely dry.

I would only wash these in the delicate cycle at 30 degrees – no spin and drip dry. I never put underwear in the dryer as it melts the elastane. Also very little detergent and no fabric conditioner.
